American adventurous activity

Nigeria! My country. Nigerians! Cruise lords. Engaging in sports excites us and makes us feel alive but how about dangerous activities?

The adrenaline level shoots so high and stretches us outside our limits. Some American adventurous activities can be so dangerous that my cruise lords call it rough play (rough play as in you get an extra life for house?)

See below a few of the American adventurous activities that Nigerians classify as rough play.

American Adventurous Activities That Nigerians See as Rough play

  1. Bungee Jumping

Bungee jumping is a unique activity in the US. In bungee jumping, you are connected to an elastic cord and required to jump from a very tall structure. Just imagine you were thrown off a very high cliff and the only reason you are not going to have a landing hit on the ground is because of an elastic cord.

For someone scared of heights, it will seem like the end of life, but then, it is like my cruise lords have trust issues though- you should be able to entrust your life on the capacity of the elastic(i said nothing of sort). The truth is bungee jumping is very scary but also very exciting.

Cruise lords will think, what if the elastic cut or expands too much? What a rough play! A very scary American activity.

  1. Bouldering

If there are no safety measures in place, and especially in outdoor bouldering, you fall, you hurt. Just as rock climbing, so is bouldering. Bouldering as an American Adventurous activity is carried out using the same instrument as that of rock climbing except without a rope or harness.

Nigerians believe this to be a scary American activity because of the high likelihood to fall. It is a huge rough play to Nigerians. Why would you want to climb a rock without hanging on to a means that can sustain you in case you fall? My Yoruba people will say erekere.

  1. Caving

Caving is another unique activity in the US. Just as the name caving implies, this had to do with exploring wild caves, abandoned mines, potholes, etc for fun or discoveries. Truth is this is actually recreational but also very daring.

Nigerians would take this as a scary American activity because you never can tell what lies in the wildlife- that is why it is wildlife. Imagine caving and your light goes bad, (i cannot stop laughing) or you seem not to know your way, just know you are on your way to starting a new community on your own!

  1. Base Jumping

Base jumping is a type of sport where athletes are required to jump from very tall cliffs, either natural or man-made structures. This requires highly trained athletes because of the strategies involved in these American adventurous activities.

It is regarded as a scary American activity because, unlike skydiving where aircraft is used, base jumping as an American Adventurous activity does not involve aircraft. You are jumping with the use of a parachute and just as the base implies, you have to land on the ground.

As a novice and an expert that village people followed, you might have a very terrible landing that can cost you a pound of flesh. I beg, my high jump and long jump are enough. Nagode sose(thank you very much)

  1. Mountain biking

Mountain biking is an American adventurous activity that involves riding bicycles off-road, often over rough terrains. This scary American activity does not use the usual bike but rather, specially designed mountain bikes.

Mountain bikes share similarities with other bikes but incorporate features designed to enhance durability and performance in rough terrains, such as air or coil-sprung shocks used as suspension, larger and wider wheels and tires, stronger frame materials, and mechanically or hydraulically actuated disc brakes.

Mountain biking is a very unique activity In the US and it can be of 5 types namely: cross country, trail riding, all mountains, downhill, and free ride.

This American adventurous activity requires strength, balance, and high bike handling skills. Despite the special bike modeled for this event, as a Nigerian, I would still ask you if you are whining your kidney out that you want to go mountain biking. Be safe, please.

  1. Slacklining

Slacklining is a unique adventure in the US. It is both a sport and an art.  This scary activity can be used to train a person on how to maintain balance. It can serve as a recreation and it can also improve meditation.

At first glance, it is similar to tightrope walking and highlining (except for the height) and is accomplished by stretching and tensioning a 1”– 2” wide length of nylon/polyester webbing between two anchor points, most often a tree.

If you have been through NYSC and partook in the Man O’ War Drills, you most likely have slacklined before though you were helped all through the way or you most likely did not reach the ending.

This American adventurous activity is used as a way of passing time while maintaining concentration, fitness, and core strength and balance skills.

  1. Highlining

Like slacklining, highlining is when you walk on a rope but at a very high altitude. what am I looking for at that height? A little boy I know will say NOPE! The rope is tied to two objects at a very high height and then, balance is required for you to have a safe passage.

Highlining is a unique activity in the US that requires lots of concentration, focus, and balance. It is an American adventurous activity and a very dangerous rough play

  1. Paintball

Paintball is a competitive team shooting sport in which players eliminate opponents from play by hitting them with spherical dye-filled gelatin capsules called paintballs that break upon impact.

This unique activity in the US seems to me like stoning the opponent and I’m aware you know how hard a stone can hit. It is quite a rough play but engagers wear gears that create a covering.

In some cases, you might still be hurt by the impact of the ball. Why would I use my own hard-earned money to hurt myself? Nah, I don’t like what I do not like. It is rough play.

  1. Racing

Racing of all shapes and sizes is an American adventurous activity where super fast-moving vehicles are used in a competitive advantage to get a winner.

Cars with huge parachutes, trucks with huge wheels, skis, bobsleds, cardboard sliding down hills, etc.

Racing is a scary American activity that is extremely dangerous and requires a brave mind. Road accidents are scary, then imagine a collision of vehicles at a face-melting speed, a very sore sight.

  1. BMX

Another unique activity in the US is BMX. BMX is an abbreviation for bicycle motocross or bike motocross. This scary American activity is a cycle sport performed on BMX bikes, either in competitive BMX racing or freestyle BMX, or else in general on or off-road recreation.

Just as racing is scary, this unique adventure in the US also is. Whenever I have to describe BMX and I am at a loss for words, I call it a stunt.

I am sure you know what stunt is and imagine what level of rough play it will be if you perform stunts on a bike and you are not the only one doing it. Other bikes are ahead and behind you. I love my Nigerian life(walks away).

  1. Boardsailing

Boardsailing is an American adventurous activity that is sometimes called windsurfing or sailboarding. In this unique adventure in the US, the board sailor stands on a sailboard that looks like a surfboard with a sail on it.

The board sailor uses his or her body to steer the sailboard along, catching the wind to fill the sail and push the board along. It is quite a scary American activity.

Conclusion

The level at which we are willing to take risks varies from individual to individual and as such, there are other sports other than the unique activities in the US mentioned above that you as an individual may consider as rough play.

In all, the point is to enjoy these unique activities in the US, and whenever you have an opportunity to partake, do so under watch and with every necessary safety tip available.
