Live a Fulfilling Life

Imagine this. A sigh of relief and a smile on your face showing that you lived your best days. When you live a fulfilling life, two things are most evident. First, you are happy with the knowledge that you made a mark on the sands of time. Second, people around you are happy, almost glowing. The path to this feeling starts with these few tips I discovered.

5 Tips to Live a Fulfilling Life

  1. Meditation

Living a fulfilling life doesn’t start from looking fulfilled. It starts from the mind. The mind can shape our lives. We conceive our thoughts first from the mind. Our mind and body are similar to a tree that doesn’t bear good fruit. You might cut down the tree but if you don’t destroy the roots, it will still sprout bad fruits. Your mind is the root. In other words, to change your life, you have to change your mind.

Now, how do you change your mind? Simple. With meditation. Meditation seems insignificant but in reality, is a life wire to a fulfilling life. It is a soothing balm to the soul. Meditation brings healing to the mind and creates inner peace in a person. It starts the process that leads to a fulfilled life.

How do you meditate?

Look for a quiet time in a day. It could be 30 minutes or 1 hour. Go to a secluded area with enough ventilation. Close your eyes. Inhale and exhale. Focus on your breathing. Listen to music, calm music, not upbeats. Think of happy things. Think of things you should be grateful for. Talk to your inner self and draw in peace. Do this every day, and in no time, you’ll start to live a fulfilling life.

  1. Gratitude

In a country where everyone wants to ‘play it safe’ by practising the blame game, it’s convenient to accuse others of our faults or misfortune. We turn a blind eye to the good things in our lives.

To live a fulfilling life, you should start being grateful for things that happened and the ones that didn’t. Show appreciation for the little things and see the good in people. By this, we expunge hatred from our hearts. When you become genuinely happy for what you have, where you are and who you are, you begin to live a fulfilling life.

  1. Relationships first

Prioritize your relationship with God and then humans. You do not want to leave this world with the regret that you could have made an impact. The beauty of life, that fulfillment of life, lies in the number of people that felt your presence in their life. In essence, the relationship you keep is a yardstick to measure a fulfilling life. Material possessions die immediately after you leave the world but relationships do not.

Let me tell you a story.

There was once a man who had everything but he didn’t treat anyone well, including his own family. He felt his master possessions could get him all he wanted. One day, he fell sick – so sick that he could barely move. There was no one around to help him, despite his dying state. It was at that point that he realized the importance of relationships.

Take a moment out of your busy schedule to connect with God every day. Take a day out of your tight schedule to connect with people. Treat people right. You can’t live a fulfilling life if you can’t be at peace with God and the people around you.

  1. Eat right and exercise well

We have been speaking of how important it is to feed the mind, but do not forget to feed the physical body. To live a fulfilling life isn’t just about the mental aspect, the physical aspect is also as important. Eating a balanced diet and exercising daily are two major ways to achieve this. Note that I said eating ‘a balanced diet,’ not just anything. Not everything that goes through the mouth is edible for a fulfilling life. Limit your intake of junk food. Eat more fruits and vegetables and drink lots of water.

Nigerians often undermine the importance of exercising. To them, exercise is for people who want to lose weight. But it is not true. If it is, why do sportsmen exercise before any activity? Are they fat?

No.

Exercise is to ensure the proper circulation of blood in the body. Exercise is to improve the flexibility of the body. There are so many benefits to exercising. You don’t need to go out to jog every morning. There are indoor exercises you could partake in. You could also do yoga. Every morning, learn to take 30 mins to do some exercise or yoga, your day will take a positive change. If you’re consistent, your life will become fulfilled.

  1. Leave your comfort zone

How many people have dreams to be like Nnamdi Azikiwe? Or to be the first lady or the Nigerian president? Do you have this dream to make an impact before leaving the world? Achieving this is not impossible, but staying in your comfort zone will turn these dreams into wishes.

To live a fulfilling life, you must empty yourself here on earth. Do not leave the world without that satisfaction you desire. Do not leave knowing there is more to what you could do. Leave your comfort zone. Explore and make an impact. Take giant strides and make a difference.

Are you happy now? How’s your life now? Isn’t it worth living? People around you are happy. You are making your dreams come true. What more could you ask for? To live a fulfilling life isn’t that hard after all. Join us on whatsapp to add a little more spice to your fulfilling life.
