Find My iPhone may be used to lock down a misplaced handset with Lost Mode in addition to finding the device’s location.

In Lost Mode, the iPhone’s screen only shows a message and a phone number, rendering everything else unreachable.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can I still track my iPhone if it’s off?

As a victim of a missing iPhone, I can tell you that when someone steals your phone, they put it off for the first 24 hours.

Apart from removing your SIM, they know you will take steps on locating the phone, so they shut off the phone to reduce your chances of locating the phone through the network. But that has changed now.

You can locate your iPhone even if it’s off now. Well, this doesn’t work for all iPhones. It only works for iPhone 11 upwards. To do this;

  • Go to your settings, click on your name, and tap the “Find my” option
  • Tap on “Find My iPhone.”
  • Change the “Find My iPhone” to on. If your phone is iOS 15, you will also see the  “Find My network,” which will let you find your phone even if it’s offline
  • “Send Last Location” will send the location of your iPhone to your Apple account when the battery is about to die.

  1. Can I find my iPhone through IMEI?

You cannot find your iPhone through an IMEI number. That option is for Android phones.

That is, there is a customized feature for locating a missing iPhone called the “Find My” feature.

  1. Can a missing iPhone be used for anything?

The special thing about iPhones is their security. It is almost impossible for someone to use a missing iPhone. Your iPhone is tied to your Apple account.

Now, you may say it can be wiped off. Yes, it can, but unlike Android phones, if your iPhone gets wiped off, it remains connected to your Apple account and makes it almost impossible for a third party to use it.

If your iPhone has a passcode, it would be difficult to use it with another sim card, but without a passcode, it can be wiped easily.

  1. Can I still track my iPhone if it has been wiped?

The iPhone security feature makes it possible for you to track your iPhone even if it has been wiped.

This depends on if you have your “find my” feature turned on before it got missing.

The location data would have been sent to your Apple account from where you can track it.

Also, you might need the help of the police at one point or the other in tracking your iPhone.

Not necessarily use the tracking location apps, but if it was stolen, you will need to involve the Nigeria Police Force, to help you get to the location and arrange how the phone can be recovered.

The truth is knowing the last location of your iPhone does not automatically guarantee that you will get it back.

Thus, you still need the Law Enforcement Agency to help you complete the recovery process.

Conclusion

Losing an iPhone is not something anybody wishes for themselves, but it happens.

And when it happens you don’t have to be confused about what to do, follow the due process highlighted in this write-up, and you might get your phone sooner than you think.

Hi,
It would have been easier if you had the Find My iPhone app on your phone. In this case, go to iCloud.com and log in using the Apple ID you used to set up your iPhone (which is probably the same as you use for iCloud. If not, use the Apple ID you use with iCloud). I hope this helps?
