Getting support to fund your university education for graduate or undergraduate studies is possible in Nigeria. However, many Nigerian students are unaware of these scholarship opportunities. There are many scholarship opportunities that Nigerian students can apply to study at home (in Nigeria) or scholarships to study abroad. The scholarships are for undergraduate, master’s degree and PhD studies.

You might ask, what is a scholarship? A scholarship is a grant or money given to students to help fund their education. Some scholarships are fully funded, while others are partially funded. Scholarships in Nigeria come from the federal government, state government (for indigenes of the state), oil and gas companies, philanthropists’ foundations/organisations, and multinational companies.

To be considered eligible for an undergraduate scholarship in Nigeria, you must present a JAMB result, birth certificate, O’level result, National Identification Number, local government identification letter, school ID card, passport photograph and admission letter. The graduate scholarship eligibility requires a completed scholarship application form, transcript copies, letter of recommendation, statement of purpose, standard test scores and passport photographs. In addition, you need to have and maintain a good cumulative grade point average (CGPA) to meet the required criteria for most of these scholarships.

In this article, I highlighted 10 Nigerian scholarship opportunities every Nigerian student should know.
